Vegetarian-friendly restaurants and street food in Bruge and Brussels?

  • 4

I will by traveling to Bruge and Brussels with a vegetarian (who eats fish, but not shellfish). Does anyone have any particular recommendations in either of these cities? We certainly do not need to restrict ourselves to vegetarian restaurants- just restaurants and/or street food that will have veg options. Thank you!

  1. Bennyt,

Doing some thinking on this but I guess my first reaction is should not be a problem really. Most all the normal rec's have good fish choices and my wife who prefers veg over meats when possible never has had any problems of note finding good veg.

One thought though, we do seem to find that really choice - and I mean GOOD - salads to be a general lack in many places. There is a particular German place we frequent who have very good salads however though otherwise is all around solid I'm not sure I'd venture outside of Brussels unless you feel so inclined.

    1. Worth noting that belgian frites are traditionally fried in animal fat - if this bothers your friend they should ask. My favourite restaurant in Brussels is Henri - can't seem to find a website but here's Trip Adviser recs from the UK. I love the place. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaura...
In general the area around St Catherine you will be spoiled for fish choices. Obviously go to look at the Grand Place but don't eat anywhere near there! The concert venue the AB (the Ancienne Belgique) has a very good restaurant attached. There might be a good concert on too!

      1. I'd also recommend Kokob, an Ethiopian restaurant on Rue des Grands Carmes (Brussels). I believe there are options that are completely vegetarian for your friend as well as some fish.

        1. Bennyt,

How'd your travels to Bruge, Brussels, Gent etc. turn out? How about a bit of a trip report on the food, beers etc.? Any of the suggestions useful or a bust?
