Shibucho is open and still very good as usual.
and it's good as usual. maguro sushi, spanish mackerel sushi, toro sushi, hirame sushi, hamachi sushi, and uni handroll, although there were no desserts (the italian pastry chef was out or uncontactable) (interestingly enough some of the best tiramisu, chocolate tarts, ricotta cheesecakes, and especially the suavest, deeply rich chocolate mousse doled up right here in this tiny, wooden sushi bar that feeels an awful lot like an idiosyncratic sushi bar on one of Toyko's hidden, forlorn side streets, which is to say a diamond in the rough). I believe Shige, the chef, was sick and/or recovering the past few weeks, and now once again he's slowly opening up shop once again in his just off Echo Park neighborhood sushi bar (what is this neighborhood actually called, Echo Park West, Silver Lake South or adjacent, just off Koreatown area, Western Downtown???) with a more limited menu of the usual sushi suspects and a reduced dinner service (10pm instead of the usual midnight, the midnight sadly having been shortened from old 3am close time back in the mid to late 1990s).
Still some of the best sushi and unique dishes in town, right up there with Sushi Zo and Go's Mart in my humblest of opinions.
