Has the Egg Recall changed your egg buying habits?
The recent recall of eggs has made me ask friends if they are buying eggs from different sources now and many have said no they are not. I get eggs through my CSA from a local farm so have not needed to buy grocery store eggs in a long time. Has this recall changed the way you purchase eggs in your area?

Yes. I prefer buying local eggs anyway and tend to only buy eggs of unknown provenance when we're out and don't have time to go to the local farm or produce store. But now I really resist doing that ever. If I'm out of eggs, I'll wait rather than buying the generic ones at the corner store that came from some central processing plant halfway across the country.

No. What can I say? I live on the edge baby! lol. Seriously though, for the moment I've quit the "eggnog" which sadly is a favourite drink (raw egg + milk + sugar + cinnamon or pie spice in the blender), so I might switch to local farm eggs. I live in a fairly agricultural area and know I could get some. I just have to stop grabbing them every time I go to the grocery store. Other than the "eggnog" though eggs around here are always in some well-cooked application.
I do always feel a little guilty buying the factory meat and eggs as it is, I feel sorry for the poor chickens (I love birds), maybe I'll get on my dear husband to build me a chicken coop and start raising my own chickens and eggs. Feed them well, let them enjoy the sunshine and exercise. I'm outside of the city, and we know a couple of people who raise chickens who would probably be willing to stud out a rooster every so often when I need some chickens to raise for meat.

Nope. I've been buying three kinds of eggs for years, and that hasn't changed. Organic eggs for general cooking use, EggBeaters when I want no fat or cholesterol with my eggs, and pasteurized in the shell eggs when I want to make things like Caesar salad the old fashioned way.

I did check box numbers for a few days but then it turned out my area wasn't rec'ing the brands affected. I buy 10-14 dozen eggs a week.

LOL. Big family, loads of entertaining, my partner & I cater breakfast/baked goods several times a week (breakfast in bed service, pastries for theatres) and my oldest child is a restaurant school director who comes home to test recipes on occasion...that, and the whole family love eggs...although, personally I'm an egg white lover.

Too funny C1. Oh we'll bring breakfast just about any place the client orders it. Office, gym, park, kitchen table...and yes, the bedroom. Typically a surprise gift anyway...but that's a discussion for another Board.

Not in the least. My local super market posted a sign saying the eggs they stocked were not from the farms involved in the recall and that's good enough for me. I tend to worry about small, silly things and let the larger problems just play out. Heck, I went to work in NYC the day after 9/11 not even thinking most places of business would be closed that day. Needless to say, I was the only one that showed up at my office! But I've been know to run home in the middle of something because I left my windows open during a rains storm. Go figure.
