Appetizers & Snacks for Dairy/Lactose Free Friends

A couple of my dear friends are avoiding dairy for very good health reasons. They love to eat and I love to cook, but almost everything in my bag of tricks has cheese or something dairy related in it! I'd really appreciate some ideas for appetizers that are fun, delicious, and dairy free.

We've already done salsa, guac, hummus. Thanks for your help!

  1. Gently fry some apple and onion, chopped small, until golden, and mix with some toasted pine nuts and some chopped basil. Use slices of parma ham to wrap spoonfuls. Drizzle with balsamic.

    Serve a plate of finely sliced good quality bread with a variety of salamis and cured meats.

    Small skewers of little chicken cubes with satay sauce for dipping.

    Unroll a sheet of puff pastry (if you're lazy, like me - or you could make it yourself!) and top with caramelised onions and anchovies to make a pissaladiere. (actually, the butter in the pastry might be a problem here on second thoughts)

    Add some cumin, paprika and chilli to minced beef and mould small amounts round the end of skewers. Grill until cooked and serve with warm spicy tomato sauce for dipping.

    Stirfry prawns, chorizo cubes and small pieces of pepper and serve with noodles for a salad, or alternatively this mix is very good if you put spoonfuls into lettuce or chicory leaves.

    Make some tiny yorkshire puddings and fill each one with a piece of good quality sausage.

    Hope some of these help! It's lovely to cook to someone's dietary limitations but still produce something yummy.
