Sunday dining in Lisbon

Looking for some recommendations for dining in Lisbon on a Sunday night. We'll be in Sintra for the day. Is it worth staying in Sintra for dinner or is there somewhere open in Lisbon that's worth trying? The only reservation made so far is for solar dos presuntos on Saturday night.
Thanks!

  1. Hi Jl,

If you have searched the archives and perused some of my posts, you might have noticed that I have posted signficantly on all facets of Lisboa's dining and food scene in Lisboa. Sunday's are indeed more limited, however there are still some options.

I think Sintra is unique and has it's charms, but I'm not sure I would stay there for dinner. Still, a place like O Restaurante Regional can be a good option for lunch.

    Here are some Sunday options:

Restaurante Frei Contente - good regional Portuguese cuisine in a tranquil and picturesque place in Lisboa, Praça das Flores

Café de São Bento - Very good Portuguese-style Steaks with incredible Frites

Restaurante Via Graça - generally very good modern Portuguese cuisine with very good views

Gambrinus - A classic in the Baixa which often has fantastic food

Faz Figura - solid food and wine list, including tasting menus

Restaurante Spot São Luiz - Modern Portuguese cuisine attached to the Teatro São Luiz in Chiado

Santo António de Alfama- If you wanted to dine in Alfama, they are open on Sunday's and offer modern Portuguese cuisine. One of the better options in Alfama.

Império dos Sentidos - One of the better options open on Sundays in the Bairro Alto.

Again, feel free to look through my posts and let me know if you have any questions as I predominantly live most of the year here in Lisboa and can always call and or confirm operating hours of restaurants should you like.

I also think you will really enjoy Solar dos Presuntos.

    Boa Sorte!

      Thanks Vinhotinto75!
Based on the reviews I've read Café de São Bento sounds perfect. Do you know if they have a website? Or if they take reservations?

I don't believe that Café de São Bento has a website, however I think you would be fine to go there without a reservation as they are usually open for dinner - including Sunday's - until 02h00.

I was able to locate this email as well: cafesaobento@hotmail.com

If you would prefer a reservation, either your hotel (if you are staying in one) or I could make one for you if you do not hear back from the email.

Again, the Portuguese steak with egg and frites is divine!

Let me know if I can help with anything else.

        Sorte!

          Thanks again Vinhotinto75!
I've secured a reservation with them for this sunday via email!
Looking forward to my 3 1/2 days in Lisbon!

            @ Jl

That is fantastic news! I met a friend there for dinner a few weeks ago and the taste of the steak and fries stayed on my palate (in a good way) for a few days!

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions at all!

            Boa Viagem!
