Harvest on the Harbour Portland Food fest treat or tourist trap?
Looking for something special to do in Portland for a weekend in October and stumbled across this: http://www.harvestontheharbor.com/ for 10/21-23/10. Has anyone been to this in previous years? How is it? Is the food market great serious stuff of fluffy ? Thanks all!

I volunteered at it last year and will be again this year. I was stationed in the food market pouring samples of maple liquor, which was some seriously good stuff! I didn't get to partake in much, but there are over 140 food, wine, and liquor vendors participating again this year. Check out the website for a listing.
It think most product samples are on the small size, but the sheer number of vendors really makes it worthwhile. Last year one seafood company (not sure which one) was giving out very large sample containers (think 1/4lb deli container) of crab claws and lobster salad. Wine and liquor pours are 1oz each, but there are many wines and liquors to sample so you could certainly leave the place "buzzed"
It was majorly crowded last year, so much that people could barely move. That has been changed this year so they have two sessions to ease the crowd.
I think the events like the dinners and lobster cook-off tend to sell out, so if you want to go to one of those you should buy tickets early. They all seem to be good values for the quality of food and drink served.
Also look at the photo gallery from last year. They had some stunning displays with models who stood like statues and they were embellished with foods and were actually part of some of the serving tables.
