Help Planning 40th for Husband... from afar!

  • 6

Hi there!

We are originally from the Toronto area, but now live in NC. My husband is turning 40 next June - and I would love some input/ideas on potential locations to celebrate his birthday. I do not have thousands to spend on this, but want it to be nice. I am open to either sit down or heavy apps - the bigger things will be location, atmosphere and cost. Most of our friends and family are on the east side of the city so I'd prefer something in that general area. About 40-50 people, has to be kid friendly. Would love something that has indoor and outdoor - it could be nice in June to have some kind of patio access.

Can you think of some places I could start investigating? My best friend is going to help me with this - site visits, etc... :) I know it's 9 months away, but I fear things will book up fast, and I like to be organized!

TIA,

  1. Globe bistro has a private room that would hold around 50, and a patio just one floor above that private room. It is also a 1 minute walk from Broadview subway station.

    1. What do you mean by east side? How much are you willing to spend per person? And what are "heavy apps"?

:) heavier appetizers - like meal replacement, but still food that can be eaten while standing or moving around.

East as far as Oshawa or Whitby.

I'd like to keep the total cost to $1200 CAD or less.

Does that cost include drinks, tax, and tip? If so, I think you'll be hard pressed to find a place. Doing enough apps to constitute a meal can often cost about as much as a sit-down meal would.

      2. I would check with Barberian's steakhouse to verify whether their two-storey wine cellar room will accomodate your party. A quick check of their outstanding wine list confirms that they have Bordeaux from his birth year, 1971 Lafite Rothschild and 1971 Mouton Rothschild. They are a pretty penny though, so start saving if you want to treat him to one! Hope this helps you.

        1. Le Papillon on the Park on the east side -- Eastern & Coxwell. -- has a lovely rooftop patio among the trees that would accommodate your group. Nice atmosphere both inside and out. Most definitely kid-friendly and I'm sure they would be able to come up with a heavy-app group menu. Lots of free parking, but only accessible by bus as far as transit goes.
