This weekend ,question

Coming down this weekend and looking for something casual. Any suggestions? Staying in the Arlington area will travel within city. Is the Capital Brewery any good? It's been years since I've been to DC and am out of the loop. Thanks in advance.

As someone who goes to Capitol Brewery all the time, I think I can safely say, no, it's not good.

If you can show up before 5:30pm, go to Churchkey. Really. That's where I'd want to go if I wasn't in DC very often. I like the Passenger on 7th also - craft cocktails, bit of a hispter crowd, but never crazy busy, well-chosen beer selection, and fun. I haven't been there yet, but there is also the Biergarten on H St NE, but you can't get there by metro. All these places are casual - Churchkey looks nice, but my friend came in wearing a white hanes t-shirt, sneaks, and jeans and nobody said a thing.

If it's not good, why do you go all the time? :)

I occasionally go to the one near Union Station for happy hour. Their beer is decent, and they have some discount appetizers on the menu. Never had a full meal there.

So, you know what? NONE of the places we suggested are a good place to watch the game. FYI. Go elsewhere. I actually do like watching games at Capitol Brewing, but you'd probably be just as happy anywhere in Arlington - Carpool, Whitlow's. Other options are any of the bars along Pennsylvania in Capitol Hill - Capitol Lounge, Pour House or Laughing Man Tavern on Metro Center. A lot of these bars are associated with particular teams, so you might want to look into that.

And I go to Capitol Brewing all the time because I walk home down H St and it's *right there* and the beer is, yes, decent. And it's cheap during happy hour. Really cheap. I also like to go to Bar Louie and Irish Channel, but - you know - I'd be lying if I told someone they were great bars. Or that anyone should order anything more complicated than fries at Irish Channel.

Hey, the seasonal German beer they have at Capitol Brewing right now, though? That's pretty damn good.

Another place to enjoy beers and food in Arlington is Thirsty Bernie (Glebe Road). Excellent beer selection, food is still good IMO post-Stachowski.

RFD would be my suggestion. You can watch the game and have a huge beer list. Churchkey doesn't have any season passes (I tried unsuccessfully to watch the Sox there), and Passenger, while beloved to me, doesn't have a TV.

Oh this is very, very true. I live right by there but always forget because we never get there early enough. But it is a *great* place to watch games. Show up two hours ahead of time if you want to be sure to get a table, etc. The beer list is neverending. Truly, probably one of the longest in the country. Chinatown/Gallery Place metro. You could use the Green Turtle as a back up - also a popular place to watch games.

Can you be more specific as to price range/location/type of food? In DC, if you want a bar with a great beer list and decent food, Churchkey comes to mind.

It gets very crowded during peak hours though, so if it doesn't work for you to arrive early, you might not want to bother.
