Restaurant for a surprise birthday party for 50 people

O.K.. Money no object. Got that, but a little more info would be useful:

1) Since it's "HIS" birthday, what type of food (or cuisine) does he like best and/or what especially to avoid ?

2) Atmosphere - formal, dressy casual, or laua shirts ?

3) What area of the L.A. Uber-opolis would be best ? (i.e., If you live in North Hollywood, would Laguna Beach be too far ?).

Thinking it should be a private room, we have a lot of loud friends! Not formal, more dressy casual. Lately we have been going to a few funerals that were Hawaiian theme, so scratch that. We are in Malibu but people will be coming from all over OC and LA. I remember going to a birthday at Chinois on Main's private room, so maybe something like that. Or that? Looking for options. Oh, and it's mid November.

Not kidding! One was even in a Catholic church, her happiest times were in their condo in Maui. They handed out fresh luas for everyone. Another was more of a wake than a funeral. A celebration of life.

Has anyone been to the private rooms at Moonsoon Cafe or Buffalo Club?? Zagat says they have private rooms and dancing???
