Spot for a Drink and a Snack
Hi hounds,
I am trying to pick a place for a cocktail or two and a snack within a reasonable walk of the AMC on the Common tomorrow night. Places that I'm considering include Post 390, Cuffs, the Ritz bar and blu. Any thoughts? I'd like it to be a place that isn't dead on a Thursday night, with decent cocktails and a few tasty options for bar snacks.
Thanks hounds,
Blue

I would head in the other direction outside the theater and hit up Marliave, Stoddard's, Woodward, or Silvertone. Cuffs is pretty generic and the Ritz bar is overpriced. If you don't mind paying a luxury hotel bar premium, you might try the Bristol Lounge at the Four Seasons.

Silvertone's is undoubtedly a good deal. Last time I went, the bartenders were friendly but seemed more about generous pours than measuring ingredients and knowledge of classic cocktails. The Joey Joe Joe Shabadoo Jr. (Rye, bitters, ginger beer) was tasty, but the Mai Tai was a mess. Just way too heavy, tasted like they used a whole lot of Myer's and well curacao.
Also hit Stoddard's that night. I appreciate what they're trying to do with the cocktail menu, but I didn't exactly love the drinks I had there. The Seelbach tasted nasty, dominated by cheap sparkling wine. The Blood and Sand was a little better. I've never had one before, but their version was only okay. I'll have to get one somewhere else to compare.

Yeah, everything on my list is definitely a notch below the best cocktail bars in town, but for "decent cocktails" and "walking distance," I think they fit.
Blood and sand is an awesome drink. Carrie at Craigie makes a good one. Or hit up Deep Ellum.

re: robwat36
love all the recommendations. i think when you say "drink," you need to narrow it down.
beer? silvertone's. apparently, silvertone's also does infused vodka drinks. they have one signature drink in particular with raspberry infused vodka... also great comfort food, but it's in a basement so maybe that's not what you are going for.
more beer? stoddards! i love their numerous taps.wine? teatro is great. good food too but loud. ivy too, stoddard's older and more sophistocated sister. stoddard's is more pub grub, ivy has small italian plates.
if you want to spend money, troquet is good for wine.cocktails? woodward is fun. has outdoor seating, pretty chic, look your best. you can't beat no. 9 park either in the bar area.
i hear petit robert just opened too!

re: shirshir
I love Silvertone, but I would not say they have a good beer selection. Drink wise, their main draw is cheap, strong cocktails and low markups on wine. Their menu is perfect for someone looking for a "snack" though. I think it fits the bill for what the OP is looking for.

THIS. although Woodward is a bit of a walk.
Maybe i'll add Petit Robert Central, Teatro, and Kingston Station. More in the mood for wine- Troquet but that's a little more towards the theater district price point. More pub-by Kennedy's or Foley's.
