Lunch Thursday in Old Saybrook/Essex/Deep River area...

Any ideas? Good food, atmosphere important. Even if chilly, a nice outdoor patio would be great. Cocktails...the kind of place you want to sit & relax & stay awhile. I've looked at Griswold Inn but it seems they don't do lunch? Not sure if I got that right.

After all my questions, we ended up at Brushmill By The Waterfall, after driving by and liking the looks of it. I had the roast veg & goat cheese sandwich, my friend had a salad. Both were very good and the setting (outside by the water) was great. I def would like to get back to try the River Tavern.

I have eaten at all three, also, and The River Tavern would be my choice, too. The wine bar at the Gris has better food than the main dining room, and it's not open for lunch.

To the best of my knowledge, the Gris is open for lunch.
Highly recommended is the River Tavern in Deep River...

Yes, it turns out they are - based on some other threads here I went back & checked. I've narrowed it down to The Gris, RT, or Aspen. Thanks!

I've eaten at all three, and while I enjoyed each of them, RT is hands down the best of the three!

I would agree that RT is the best of those three. I would also suggest Brasserie Pip at the Copper Beech Inn in Ivoryton (Essex). The covered porch has a nice view of the grounds.
