Downtown, inexpensive and res for this saturday night

Need somewhere fun, not expensive (but doesn't have to be cheap) and good for this Saturday night for 3-4 women.
Used to be quite a foodie but moved to the burbs and don't really know what's going on in the restaurant scene too much anymore.

And what exactly does "not expensive (but doesn't have to be cheap)" come to? Everyone's definition of "expensive" is different.

Depending on your price range, I'd say.... Frankie's 17, Prune, Momofuku Ssam Bar, Double Crown all fall into the not-cheap / not-expensive range, and all are quite good. Maybe WD-50 - they're definitely fun, that's for sure. But they're a bit more expensive - not, like, expense-account expensive. But more than the others.

That's a bit vague, what exactly do you mean by 'downtown'. Also, particularly on a busy Saturday night you really need to be sure about your numbers. Most restaurants will be miffed if you make a reservation for 4 and only 3 show up.
