Saddle River Inn is always a good bet for game, and knows how to prepare it.
We dined at Bistro 18 in Montclair the other night; one of our party - who often orders game when available - had venison (as I recall, it was a special) and enjoyed it very much.

I had an excellent vension dish at my favorite Keyport restaurant on Saturday night. It was a vension duo - prefectly done "rare" vension steak and vension stew accompanied by smashed potatoes. It wasa special so you may want to phone the super friendly chef to see if it is available on the night you plan on going there. Of course, even if the vension isn't avaiable there are always other excellent dishes you could enjoy.

Just a word of caution,; with the economy as it is and unemployment rate high, more than a few folks have taken to selling venison.
The poaching of deer is illegal as well as buying it, granted there is an abundance of deer in all counties of New Jersey, actually an over population in some areas, but do not risk a fine and/or imprisonment your craving, buy only Farm Raised venison. -

At the moment I know of only two restaurants that are serving venison dishes. These are the Sergeantsville Inn and the Frenchtown Inn, both in Hunterdon County. Many restaurants are still on their summer menus so you'll probably see more venison as we move into fall and winter.

Seems to me venison is more of a fall/winter menu item. Amanda's in Hoboken usually has it on the menu come fall. I would call and ask if and when they might be featuring it.

Haven't seen on a menu lately BUT if you have a food store near you that carries D'Artangan products (Wegman's sometimes, Trader Joe's, King's in some locations, or of course a good gourment food store) I've gotten their Venison several times and cooked it myself at home, extremely good quality, and it great.
