I'm Working on Bus Stop at the Huntington Theatre Co and one of our actresses has requested applesauce donuts to eat onstage. Anyone know of a bakery that makes them in the Boston Area?

  1. I'm a bit of a donut fiend and I've never seen applesauce donuts around here. Apple Cider donuts yes, applesauce, no. An apple cider donut would probably be a good replacement.

if she wants the round with a hole look, Demet's, Donuts with a Difference (both in Medford) and Kane's (Saugus) all have that type, depending on when you're there, but they are all pretty large... especially Kane's. If she wants a smaller one (I would, if I were an actor) it might be worth the trek out to an orchard to stock up and freeze them (they freeze and reheat really well). I like Cider Hill in Amesbury and Russel Orchards in Ipswich.

Otherwise if she wants more of a dough ball look, Betty Ann (East Boston) doesn't have apple cider as far as I know, but the look is straight out of grandma's kitchen.

Thanks Chris - knew that there would be donut fiend or two on here!

Apple Cider donuts did occur to us as a possible (and easier to source) option. Thanks for the tips.

    2. There is someone that sells apple cider donuts at the Copley Sq farmers market every week,
