U.S. Meat Farmers Brace for Limits on Antibiotics

From today's NY Times
"... the Food and Drug Administration appears poised to issue its strongest guidelines on animal antibiotics yet, intended to reduce what it calls a clear risk to human health. They would end farm uses of the drugs simply to promote faster animal growth and call for tighter oversight by veterinarians."

    1. oops, I meant to post this on the Food & Media board.

      1. Unfortunately, an FDA guideline is just that- a guide. It has no regulatory power whatsoever. The FDA issues these guidelines frequently, and just as frequently they are totally ignored.
Which means that until there is a regulatory change or a Congressional bill limiting the use of antibiotics in animals raised for food, it will be business as usual.
