Nova Lox in Austin Somewhere?
I am hosting a break fast for Yom Kippur* and have secured bagels (from Rockstar bagels) and would like to complete the trifecta with appropriate quality "accoutrements." I would like some suggestions for (in order of importance):
1) Nova style (the not-as-salty kind) lox. Zabar's is of course my favorite but is $50/lb. (+ overnight shipping!). I need three pounds, so that becomes prohibitive. Obviously the quality does not have to be Zabar's-level, but I'd like to know what I'm getting in to.
2) Cream cheese. I'm a fan of Temp Tee in the NYC area or the deli-style whipped kind (i.e., not heavy like Philadelphia). Scallion cream cheese a welcome option.

I would do Central Market for the lox - I think they have some that run about $25.00/lb in the deli case, and they probably have some that are packaged and are of decent quality.
The cream cheese you need is at Wholly Bagel... scallion plus a host of other flavors. I would pick up some more bagels there too - I'm a fan of Rockstar, but I think these have the edge. Good bialys too. I wouldn't get the lox here - I find the fish to be mushy - maybe frozen and thawed.

I could swear I've seen whipped cream cheese at Central Market - not TempTee but another brand. Wholy Bagel has scallion cream cheese but it's not whipped.
About the nova lox - I hope I don't get slammed for saying this, but try Costco. As someone who grew up having to tear lox into tiny pieces so everyone could have some, it's been one of my adult pleasures to lay a couple of slabs of lox on a bagel with abandon like I do when I buy it from Costco. They have a wild salmon and an atlantic salmon - both are around $20. I think the wild you get less in the package. The atlantic is a pound and a half. The wild is slightly salty - the atlantic is not salty at all, more like nova lox. It's not Zabar's but I think for a crowd it would be perfect.
