florence: where to eat with severe fish/shellfish allergy?

Travel to Florence in October, one member of our party has a severe fish/shellfish allergy. Where are good places to eat where no fish are prepared on the premises? He will have a severe reaction if even around the cooking of fish....Thanks!

I am sorry to hear about that, that could be a headache for you and the rest of the party. Food in Florence is predominantly based around meat and although fish is gradually creeping onto menus this is taking a long time. The best places for you to look at are the traditional Florentine restaurants....I think it will be very difficult to ensure that no fish/shellfish are prepared in certain restaurants. Good luck though...and have a super time

Do you know of any vegetarian places?

Honestly it seems to me that many of the traditional Tuscan places do not even serve fish except for the occasional baccala (salt cod) or maybe a seppie in zemino and maybe on a Friday. They are highly meat, bean and vegetable based. Am I wrong? Soes Sostanza offer a fish dish, for example? I Latini? Mario? Ocean fish is a luxury and highly appreciated in Italy, so the higher end you go the more you will see. Its hard to believe you will have to go to a veg place to avoid fish dishes and fish odors. I frankly do not remember them from Florence (relatively low end) at all.
