Scottsdale, Old Town Area, Restaurants with Veg Options

Hello:

I am heading to Scottsdale for a business trip for 4 nights this Tuesday, and it happens to be my birthday as well. My husband is joining me and we are hoping to enjoy several great dinners. We are staying in the Old Town area and would like to walk if it's feasible, although we will have a car.

I am a vegetarian - however, besides not eating meat or fish, I am not picky in any way. My husband is omnivore. We love anything "ethnic" (Mexican, Italian, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian, etc., etc.), or restaurants with ingredients that are locally sourced/in-season, and also good wine (or beer). We are equally happy in a dive bar with a burger (veg for me) or pizza as we are in a more sophisticated environment

I will continue to search the boards and reviews...but if anyone has specific recommendations, I'd be very grateful for your input.

Thank you in advance for your help!

  1. One of my favorites is FnB in Old Town. They source locally, items change seasonally, and they always have wonderful vegetable options on the menu. I'm not a vegetarian, but will sometimes make a meal out of just the vegetable dishes, they're that good. My husband loves anything done on the mesquite grill - on our last visits, a ribeye special and lamb tenderloin. It's a small space with fabulous service and a warm inviting atmosphere, and where I chose to celebrate my birthday this year.

Current menu (in addition they usually have a couple of specials):

You'd have to drive but I have to mention another of my favorite restaurants that sources seasonally and locally. Quiessence is located in a beautiful setting on a pecan orchard with an on-site farm so the menu changes daily. It's one of my favorite spots for a celebratory dinner, especially on the patio if the weather is nice.

Tonight's menu (they will also do a vegetarian tasting menu/other dishes):

Nice video posted today about FnB's focus on local:

Thanks so much Rubee, these sound wonderful! Quiessence definitely seems worth the drive - sounds beautiful and may be a good b-day choice.

      2. They can't all be birthday dinners, right? For a more casual dinner, try Green in South Scottsdale (5 minutes south of old town). It's vegan all the way, but doesn't suffer from the typical pitfalls of your vegan fare. Great mock chicken wings!

If you're talking about the "buffalo chicken wings" made with mushrooms - I agree, they're delicious! Definitely opened my eyes up to good vegan fare.

(BTW, to the OP - it's completely vegan so no omnivore options for your husband, and in North Tempe though not from from Old Town as tabe1978 mentions).

We love casual as well - and mock chicken wings, yum! We will definitely look for this one, thank you! I am grateful for the input, and looking forward to the trip.
