Food on Recent Visit to Chicago
In order that we did them:
Hot Doug's is all that it is cracked up to be. First expect an hour and a half wait and they close the line at 4PM. The Chicago Dog was great. We tried a shrimp and pork sausage with blue cheese that was also top notch. On Saturday's get the duck fries (the portion feeds two in my opinion).
The tour of Eli's Cheesecakes (1 PM costs $3) comes with a free slice and there are extra slices you can win. Be sure to buy a chocolate covered cheesecake on a stick for $2. It was as good as it sounds.
For breakfast, try Tempo or West Egg. Both were excellant.
Go to the Andersonville Section and try Anteprima. We shared and loved the following: Squash blossoms with trufles and parmegiano (a special), grilled peaches with gorgonzola and cippino onions with a balsamic viniger, papparadelle with berkshire pork in a tomato sauce, and sockeye salmon over polenta with yellow and green squash in a light tomato sauce. Also the glasses of wine are oversized and the per bottle prices are reasonable.
last, try Wow Bao. We had salad, Bao's, reice bowl. All cheap and all very tasty.
