catering suggestions?

Hi Chowhounds,

I've got a very special event coming up for around 60-80 people and I have a catering conundrum:

I'd love to have some delicious, kitschy, gourmet foods - sort of like belgium french fries, sliders and gourmet hot dogs....gourmet "nuggets" it best to hire a caterer, or actually find one of those food truck dudes to do something like this?

As much as I'd like quality, I also don't want to sell my first child to pay for this either. I want to pay something fair...I just have no idea what "fair" is!

I've never thrown an event like this and I would appreciate any insider tips on how to negotiate this world, and if you guys think I should just find a restaurant to do individual "private" caterer to do this...or a food truck.

Thanks a million Chowhounds!

  1. I have no idea where your event will be, or what your idea of a fair price is, but you might just want to give Elements Kitchen a call.

Every event I've attended that they've catered was very well done (although I was not the organizer so I have no idea about their pricing policy). Good luck.

Thanks for this recommendation! I will call them post haste!

(The event is in Santa Monica, and heck, I REALLY have no idea what a fair price is! What I am finding though is that ANY catered event just seems to start at $50 a person no matter what kind of food I want...and I sort of want humble but improved "street" food!) Thanks again!
