We need to do what they do on the LA board- get users to vote and come out with an annual Ultimate Outer Boroughs (instead of Ultimate LA) list. We need a champion to lead this effort!

My favs -- with the catch that they are all veg.-friendly and in Queens (represent!):
Hunan Kitchen of Grand Sichuan, Flushing (hot & spicy; dishes I've never seen elsewhere; a Chinese colleague took me here just before the Times' review came out)
Arepas Cafe, Astoria (don't miss their guasacaca, aka green crack sauce!)
Zenon Taverna, Astoria 31st Ave. (one of the few veg.-friendly Greek/Cypriot places in the 'hood -- esp. during Lent: http://www.cityspoonful.com/zenon-tav...
)Maharaja, Jax Heights (best Indian sweets in the 'hood -- huge selection; decent chaat, but greasy food)
Ornella Trattoria, Astoria Ditmars (inventive Italian dishes you don't see elsehwere -- e.g., chickpea flour pasta, a dedicated veg. menu, and a great owner!)
Ploy Thai, Elmhurst (light, flavorful, authentic Thai food & they get the "no fish sauce" thing for vegetarians)
Ganesh Temple Canteen, Flushing (still some of the tastiest, most authentic Indian cuisine in the city -- and extremely cheap too!)
Linn (Japanese), Astoria (beautiful, amazing food -- if you're veg, don't miss the tofu made at your table; you will wonder if you're really still in Astoria!)
Cheburechnaya, Rego Park (Bukharian/Tajiki/Russian -- lots of salads and fried/baked pastries for veg. eaters; delicious skewered meats, dumplings, and noodle soups for meat eaters)

Hi CitySpoonful,
Although I am not a vegetarian, some of my favorites in Queens happen to have remarkably delicious vegetarian options and I highly recommend them.
First, if you haven't been, go to Wafa's in Forest Hills on Metropolitan Avenue. You can get a full-on Lebanese vegetarian sample-fest here and not feel the least bit deprived. There's a LOT that is wonderful though my personal favorites include the fattoush, the okra, the hummus and the mousakaha. Here is their website:
http://www.wafasfood.com/
Also, once they reopen on April 26th (following a short vacation) I recommend the all-vegan, all-raw, all the time Organic Village on Cooper Avenue in Glendale. There, my absolute favorites include the Thai coconut "noodles," the "burrito," and be sure to save room for the truly amazing raw chocolate mousse. Wow. Here is their website:
http://organicvillagenyc.com
Both of these options are a little off the beaten path. Wafa's is about a 15-block walk from the 71st/Continental Avenue stop off of the E, F, M, or R trains. Organic Village is best reached either by car or by bus (the Q45, Q54, and Q29 all stop nearby according the the MTA map).
Hope you'll check these places out. They're both worth the trip!
Ciao,
Glendale is hungry...
