Masseria in Scarsdale (formerly Bistro Citron & Backals)

I've driven by the Five Corners in Scarsdale a few times and noticed some huge banners hung from what used to be Bistro Citron and Backals. They both read "Masseria" and there a web site at

Although the web site is not up, I Googled Masseria and it seems like we're in for an Italian restaurant. Don't know if it's an offshoot of La Masseria ( which is in Manhattan and East Greenwich, RI.

The definition of a "masseria" is "a fortified farmhouse. They are commonly found in southern Italy, particularly Puglia and Sicily."

This location has been cursed with these two previous restaurants which never had any buzz, lift or appeal. Too bad because the turreted building itself is quite striking. Let's hope this one sticks around for more than a year?

It was the Piedmont in for years in the 70's and 80's before it was anything else. Had bands and decent food at one time it was the place to go.

    2. It is not the location that is cursed. The location is excellen although it may be more difficult to fill the large spacet.

It was that the last two restaurants did not meet expectations and develop an identity.

        1. I saw a lot of work going on inside this week, and I was curious to see when it was opening. I guess they changed the name to Massa.
