Dinner at the Hall of Fame, Springfield MA

flyscot Sep 10, 2010 04:53 PM

Any comments about Pazzo or Max's, which both seem to be part of the H of F complex?
Any decent alternatives within walking distance on a Sunday evening, mid-October?
I'd appreciate any help, thanks.

Pazzo bad. Max's good. Stay away from Onyx too.

Why stay away from Onyx? I've never been but have heard it's a place I should try at least once. What's it like?

Avoid the sports bar/restaurant, too (Samuels). At least for dinner - it's not a bad place to have a drink. There are several restaurants within the HofF complex, but walking beyond that isn't really an option.

We did not care for Max's at all. We like all the other Max restaurants but the food quality did not equal the price there and we will not return.

I would go to the Student Prince on Fort Street. It is a German restaurant and a real Springfield institution. The collection of steins, corkscrews, and other memorablia is worth the trip alone. Good german food, great beer on tap. It is close to walking distance, but you will want to drive because the area is kind of sketchy. When you get to the Prince they have cheap valet parking though, so no worries.

Yes take a cab over there if you do not have your own transportation. Whatever you like is on the menu and the bar is classic. Don't forget the roquefort dressing on your salad.

I tried this restaurant last month despite the Hounds warning me away and was suitably disappointed. It was very overpriced for what we got, nothing was that great and despite telling the waiter we were passing through and needed to get back on the road, I had to keep on flagging him down. Not a repeat.

Red Rose Italian restaurant and pizzeria: it may seem large and cavernous, but it is wonderful. You cannot go wrong here. Downtown, centrally located.
