Source of fenugreek leaves - Tacoma area

New member, first post:
I have a recipe calling for fenugreek leaves. Fenugreek seeds are easy to find.
1. Where can I buy them within, say, 30 miles of Tacoma?
2. If I pulverize the seeds, do I have a reasonable substitute?
Thanks for any help.
Tom

Have you tried Daniah's in Tacoma? I seem to recall they have a selection of spices. Don't know if they're still around but they used to be on 6th Ave. The KN Halal Market on Martin Way in Lacey might be able to help you as well.

I think I remember seeing methi or something that looked like it occasionally at (oddly enough) Ranch 99 markets in Southern CA: anyone know if the Ranch 99 near Tukwila has it? ...and are there Indian/Persian/Middle Eastern groceries closer than Seattle?

In Indian groceries look for 'methi'.

Try Apna Bazaar and Mayuri Grocery in Bellevue/Redmond. I have seen fresh methi at both.

A Persian grocery would have dried fenugreek leaves. They are used in some Persian recipes like Ghormeh Sabzi. The places I know of are all in Seattle or Bellevue... Pacific Market in Seattle or Neda Persian Grocery in Bellevue.

The seeds have a similar fragrance but I'm not sure if they would work as a substitute.

Any Indian store will also have fenugreek leaves.
