in search of new dining experiences

any great new restaurants which have opened up recently (past year) which are worth checking out? open to all price ranges (but i'll set the bar a notch below stella! which is out of my comfort zone for a meal) and all cuisines. preferably uptown, cbd, quarter, garden district, or mid-city.

Meson 923, Domenica, Three Muses, Coquette, Patois, Iris (new location), Rambla, Le Petite Grocery (new owner)

Mondo & Old Metairie Bistro if you are out in the burbs

Coquette and Patois. LeForet is more formal(think August). I'd bypass 7 on Fulton.

For an ecletic, globe-trotting menu, give Green Godess on Exchange Alley a try.

Le Foret has been open less than a year located in CBD serving traditional NOLA French cuisine open for dinner only. 7 on Fulton in the Wyndham Riverfront Hotel has been open about 3 years if you missed it.

      Le Foret @ 129 Camp St., New Orleans, LA 504 - 553 - 6738.

I was a bit underwhelmed with 7-on-Fulton, but have to admit that we did hit them a bit late. Nothing was clicking from the service to the kitchen. Even the wine service was off. Maybe just a bad night. The venue is good, and the patio/bar scene was busy, but for dining, they slipped down my list. Matter of fact, we passed on them on our upcoming trip, though staying near the neighborhood. Maybe give 'em another go, and before 9:00PM next time.

That is one of the big problems with dining in NOLA, even for a frequent visitor - one poor experience, and then 50 other places come to mind, on future trips. Even if the previous trip was the only "bad night" of the year, who wants to pass on so many great places? I feel the same about Drago's (Hilton). Too many really good places, that always deliver.

I have heard really good things about Le Foret, but have not worked them into the rotation yet.

Le Foret is excellent, but it is in the Stella price range.

Crescent Pie and Sausage, in Mid City. Good, creative pizzas with house-made sausages and cheese.

We just went there this afternoon. I had the cuban calzone with the house cured coppa, tender pork and house-made mozzerella and my husband had the lamb merguez. Then we split piece of key lime pie for dessert. A really nice lunch. I want to go back and have some pizza.
