Italian in Fresno?

We will be in Fresno on a Tuesday night in mid-October, on our way from Sequoia National Park back to Fresno Airport and are looking for a great Italian restaurant for dinner. (Early morning flight on Wednesday; staying at airport Marriott).

What would you recommend?

Richard, in my opinion, the best Italian restaurant is about 25 mins from the airport. It is Parma on Herndon and Marks. If it's possible, you might try an early dinner before you check in, then head to your hotel. I can give you directions if you wish.

That looks great. Google maps shows the way.

Is there anything comparable closer to the airport or between Sequoia and Fresno? Or is this the clear winner for the area?

In my opinion for Italian, yes.
The airport, as in most cities, is not in the best part of town, thus the long drive to some place nice.

I am not very familiar with Fresno, but I have been going to Northern Italy every year for the past 10 years. My one meal at Parma in Fresno was memorably excellent. I really look forward to a return visit.

Thanks. Sounds as if Parma is the way to go.

One other possibility is OGGI. It's not so well known, it's new--it's in the Tower District--Fresno's tiny little SOMA (SF) or Village (NYC). It's on the corner of Van Ness and Olive Ave.--somewhat closer than Parma. Great Italian food, great service, and a nice wine list at a somewhat lower price-point.

From NY... Parma is the only choice.

Listen to Chris, he knows his food and knows his wine. In fact I'd go with scrapping Parma and suggest trying Trelio in Clovis. Easier jaunt even than the Tower District given all the road construction going on.

Oggi looks a bit more basic than we'd like and Trelio looks a bit less Italian than we'd like.

Is there likely to be road construction or other traffic issues Sequoia to Parma to airport area? We'd plan on an early dinner, given a flight first thing in the morning.

We had a very nice dinner at Parma. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for Italian in the area.

                Thanks everyone!

Thanks for the feedback, RichardNYC. Glad you enjoyed it and made the effort to give it a try. I'm lucky, it's almost in my backyard.
