I'd like to surprise him, but he has requested lobster. What restaurant serves the best lobsters in town? We are on the westside...

I wouldn't eat lobster anywhere but The Palm, and I wouldn't eat anything but lobster at The Palm. I prefer the downtown branch to WH because it is less frenetic. You know that you can request the bugs steamed instead of broiled.

Definitely the Palm, but there are tons of other great things there -- I'm there b4 most Clips and Kings games and cannot do lobster every time. For starters, the mixed green salad with their ridiculously good creamy bleu cheese is big enough for a meal (at least it is when you use the yummy raisin bread to mop up the extra dressing) and a steal at around $8. The crab cocktail is yummy, the lamb chops are really good (it's so hard to get a good lamb dish) and ridiculously huge, the steaks I agree are just OK, the broiled salmon and swordfish are very nice. Add great service and everything else and this is a place I have been looking forward to returning to throughout this season of the boring outdoor sports...

I think it actually might be too late, but over the summer, the Palm was offering a 3 pound lobster, a 16 oz filet or 18 oz new york steak, 2 salads, and 2 sides for $105. awesome deal.

If not the palm, you should hit up a cantonese or vietnamese seafood restaurant.

Have you thought about having Maine lobsters shipped in? I've done it a few times and the lobsters are great and you can get a whole clambake with steamers, etc, if you desire. More fun to dig in at home than at a restaurant. Try Mainelobsterdirect.com.

There is a restaurant called (not surprisingly) The Lobster by the Santa Monica Pier. The namesake crustacean is well-prepared, with a nice view to boot.
