Split Peas, Green or Yellow?

A gift of a ham bone sent me to the kitchen a bit a early in the season to make pea soup. I always select the yellow split peas but am not certain I can articulate the difference in taste. Opinion?

  1. I tried yellow once but didn't like the way it looked.

    1. You eat with your eyes, too. I am mentally prepared for a green split pea soup, not for a yellow one. Green pea soups aren't pretty but yellow. I would certainly try the yellow but am unlikely to go to the trouble of making the yellow unless I heard it was significantly better.

        I really can't remember, but yellow definitely didn't taste better. Possibly the same, but I think it had less flavor if anything.
