Where can I find raw brisket in Raleigh?

  • 9

Anyone have any ideas? I can't find it at my local supermarkets and The Fresh Market also didn't have it. I would love to smoke a side of brisket, but can't seem to source any locally. Thanks in advance!

  1. I'm about an hour east, but...

Sam's Club has brisket pretty consistently. Very occasionally, you can find it at Harris Teeter.

Fresh Market, Harris Teeter, etc. should be able to order it for you, if you ask at the meat counter I've seen brisket in International Foods (formerly Compar Foods). You may also want to check with your local farmer's market vendors. If you're really stuck for a source, there are meat vendors at the inside part of the State Farmer's Market.

    2. Trader Joe,s, BJ's

      1. Does it need to be kosher? If so, you may have a problem at this late date. If not, I got mine Sunday at BJ's and cooked it on Monday. The briskets at BJ's generally weigh between 5 and 6 pounds and will need trimming before you cook them. I'd rather take the time myself and trim carefully than have a careless store "butcher" lop off loads of good meat that you just paid for.

TJ's has plenty, at least in CH.

        2. I see it at Costco most visits.

          1. It was in the Fresh Market on Cary Parkway that I went to last week. I would probably call around and so that you aren't searching for a store that has it. Probably easier to order ahead if they'll do that.

            1. I've gotten brisket at Lowes Foods when I couldn't find it at HT. If you're near Cary, I'm sure The Meat House has brisket. And I like their quality.

              1. I have never been in a Fresh Market that did not have brisket. Here's a good tip. Get a 5# tin foil pan about 9 x 12 I think. Marinate your brisket in Dale's Steak Sauce and Worchestershire Sauce and your choice of seasonings. Cook on the grill over charcoal on each side a few minutes. Move to the pan and cook 4 hours on medium heat coals on opposite end of pit from fire. Smoke your brisket in the tin foil pan. It will be tender as a country girl's heart.
