Haven't been to Pincholine but I just ate the prix fixe at SHO and was unimpressed to say the least. The only good item was the summer corn soup while the mushroom pappardelle was gummy. I have had multiple delicious and memorable meals at the Modern. I've yet to eat anything that tasted bad there.

Having been to the 3 you mentioned a few times each I'd say it comes down to what you are trying to acheive because in terms of food they are all excellent. Without knowing more details I would immediately pick The Modern Dining Room because it's the best overall experience of the 3 AND the food is slightly more creative.

Another vote for The Modern Dining Room. Definitely the most creative of the three, and also the most celebratory in atmosphere.

That brings it down to The Modern or SHO. Picholine is elegant and refined (but don't interpret that to mean stuffy). The Modern benefits from a great bar area and terrace for before dinner drinks, a beautiful view out on to the sculpture garden, and a very hip and upbeat design. During the daytime it can seem a bit too bright but when the sun goes down it's really a wonderful place. My vote still goes to The Modern. If you do book here ask for a table along the windows, much nicer than the tables near the bar room divider.

Another vote, among those three, for the Modern. I don't like Sho much at all, and your "fun" requirement takes Picholine out of the running.

They are all great, but I would put SHO at the top, at least for food. I like the ambience at the Modern a bit more. Also, if value matters, SHO is considerably less expensive.

Haven't been to Picholine but have been to SHO and The Modern (dining room) recently, and for flavor, subtlety and wit the food at The Modern is best. I didn't find it noisy in the least - the bar area is, but not the dining room. The food at SHO is a lot of fun - the Dionysian opposite to the Appolonian Per Se - but I'd go back to the Modern before going back there.

Concurring here. I've been to all three and my choice would also be The Modern Dining Room, by a long shot.

Of those I'd choose SHO, but I wonder why you narrowed the list down to those three? Corton and Eleven Madison Park, among others, would be above The Modern or Picholine on my list.

I second Wilfrid on both those recs. My comments were only limited to the 3 you asked about

Have not been to Picholine (can you believe it??) but have been several times to both SHO and The Modern. I'd say between those 2, it depends on the ambiance you're looking for. At The Modern, you have the beautiful view of the sculpture garden with a lively, loud crowd (you'll be shouting at each other to have a conversation). SHO is much more quiet, more of a high-end service experience, and I find the food and presentation more refined. Personally, between these two, I would pick SHO. Sorry that I can't compare it to Picholine for you.

While I haven'y yet been to SHO, I have had dinner at both The Modern and Picholine. My vote is for Picholine (based on food and service).

The Modern is fun for a hectic lunch but I love Picholine for an elegant dinner.
