Help! My cakes pans are stuck together!

I have two 9" rounds, one stuck within the other... Any tips or tricks for releasing? Thanks!

Solved! Finally got a knife in the lips, and pried them apart! Whew! Saved!

  1. You can fill the top one with really hot water. The air between them will expand.

Thank you! I will keep this in mind in the future. Hopefully I will remember to put a piece of wax paper between them when I put them away.... :)

Wouldn't that also cause the metal of the upper pan to expand, wedging it in tighter?

I would think you float the bottom one in hot water (or over a low heat burner, and fill the top one with ice, water and rock salt.. one expands, one hopefully contracts, and you get them apart..

Thank you! I ordered some cake pans and they were stuck together when they arrived. I used your tip and it solved the problem immediately! Thanks again!

      2. Just 3 days ago I threw out a glass and aluminum sugar jar because I simply could not get the top off. (It was the classic mini-garbage-can shaped kind, with a little loose aluminum flap for pouring.)
Not an expensive thing, but I wish I had thought of holding the top under hot water. I'll bet the aluminum top would have expanded WAY faster than the glass, and it would have come right off. I somehow got the threading askew and it was STUCK.
