The Petaluma Raley's started roasting New Mexico Hatch chiles yesterday in the parking lot. Roasters will fire up around noon, continuing today and tomorrow (9/4 & 9/4).

The photo linked above shows what the chiles look like when they first go into the roaster. Here's when they're done a few minutes later. The flesh is softened, compressing the mass, and the skins have been knocked around and loosened up.

Roasting again at Alameda 12-5. They had a huge response: they were trying to track down my order and took me in back where there were cases of roasted peppers waiting to be picked up. The guy told me that one customer bought four cases!
