I'll be in Boston for one night. I've never been before. I'm looking for a great restaurant. Either steak or seafood. Open $. Any and all suggestions appreciated. TIA.

Neptune Oyster in the North End. Only caveat is that they do not accept reservations.

While waiting though you are in one of the more interesting and vibrant neighborhoods in Boston (Its our Little Italy) and its easy to waste time exploring for a bit.

Another option if $ is no object is O Ya in the Leather District. Arguably the best Boston has to offer for High-End New-Japanese.

Any restrictions on location? Any kind of atmosphere preferred (formal vs. sleek and modern vs. cozy)?

Seems consensus for best overall restaurant in Boston/Cambridge are O Ya, Menton, Craigie

KO Prime, Oak Room and Capital Grill are steak places that generally get good reviews, as far as steakhouses go.
