Taco stand at 2nd and Beaudry
I've been told that there is a great taco stand at 2nd and Beaudry. I believe it starts with a "K". Anyone on this board know this stand and if so, what's the scoop. By the way, my fave at the moment is the one on Alvarado, north of Sunset, in front of the large supermarket. Sabroso!

this taco truck is my white whale. I've literally gone to where it is supposed to be at least 5 times and I've never seen it.
it's an unfortunate name- Kike is short for enrique

Dommy: Is MEXICALItacoCO, the same as Ricky's Taco, of fish taco fame?

Here is a photo of the Mexicali stand (1st & Beaudry)...
Kike's is at 2nd & Beaudry; they set up shop there quite frequently, usually around 9PM or 10PM. Yum.

Hi Bruin2,
If you're talking about the Pop-Up Taco Stand (not a Truck (since there seems to be a discussion about a Truck here as well)) at 2nd and Beaudry (Kike's), I've tried them once. They were... ~decent LA Street Tacos. We tried 3 of their offerings (IIRC, Carne Asada, Lengua and something else (it's been a while)) and they were all ~OK. Not close to any of the Tacos I've tried in Mexico, and I've had better in LA. Not a destination IMHO.

I think the confusion might be because Kike's has recently switched from stand to truck. (Unless my mind is playing tricks on me.)

Hi namstermonster,
It's not a "stand" but for Carnitas Tacos (8 different types :), I can't get enough of Metro Balderas (Highland Park) (FYI: weekends only).
For other Tacos, I've been utterly ruined by my recent trip to Mexico: The Carne Asada Tacos (using 4 different types of Steak (and it still costs only ~$1); or the Sonoran Carne Asada Taco Stand I tried), Carne Adobada, Birria, Barbacoa Tacos... it's so absurdly good and beyond what I've had in LA/OC that I haven't sought out any Tacos since I've been back (no joke).
I used to enjoy El Pique Taco Truck in Highland Park on York & Ave. 53 but I haven't been back in over a year. There was also an outlaw Al Pastor Stand part of Breed Street that was tasty, but I'm sure it's gone now that most of the Breed Street vendors got scattered. :(

just up the street from El Pique is La Estrella, which is my current truck of choice (I'm a former Taco Zone guy as well)

Are all the Estrellas (restaurants and trucks) under the same ownership, or is it just a common name? NB: I know it means "the star" and is also the name of a well-known Spanish beer.

I am led to believe through my online searches that at least 2 are indeed the same, however I am not 100% sure.

Ate at Mexicali tonight. I have my new favorite place. Ricky of fish taco fame was there. Great asada and chicken. Nice people. Reminds me of Yaqui Taco in Rosarito but better!

YAY! Glad they lived up their hype. I've been intrigued by them and can't wait to try myself! :)

Doh! Don't let the secret get out!
Plenty of parking, which is refreshing for a L.A. eatery.

Yay!! Glad you liked them! I was there last night too, and so were many of Ricky's customers : ).
Everyone seemed very happy. What a great taco night. I am from Baja, born and raised, and the scene at Mexicali Taco last night reminded me of one of those late night taco runs there. Happy people, scattered all around the taco stand, eating by their cars, chatting. Good times and amazing food. Superb customer service! All of that with the beautiful view of the City of Angels! This is truly the real thing!
