Philly Cheese Steak Close to Independence?

Will be in Philly for a short period of time prior to Thanksgiving. We want to get real Philly Cheese Steaks for lunch while touring The Mint, Independence Park.... Any great places close??

Sonny's or Campo's near 2nd & Market Sts. are very good places close to your requested location.

Slightly off topic, one of my pet peeves is when someone calls it a Philly Cheesesteak when in Philly. I certainly wouldn't go to New York City and ask where I could find a New York style deli.

But, if you are ok with walking about a half mile each way, I'd head down to 4th and South for Jim's.

Seriously if I was the OP, I'd skip the cheesesteak (what do you call it if you don't want cheese?) altogether and get a roast pork sandwich from DiNic's at Reading Terminal Market.

Whatever the OP chooses, anything is better than the Bourse.

My dad never gets cheese on his and he just asks for a "plain steak with onions."

I usually get mine w/out cheese. i'll put 'no cheese' at the end just to be clear. "one steak with mushrooms and onions, no cheese" for instance.

I will be staying in Philly for the night and heading over to Reading Terminal on the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving and heading back to see my family in Jersey. Funny you should ask that question since I'll be passing through Buffalo tomorrow and probably will stop at the Anchor Bar. But, to answer your question, I order wings when I order them no matter what city I am in.
