Best truffle salt?

xerxes_xerxes Sep 2, 2010 01:05 PM

Hi everybody, I've been wanting to buy some truffle salt but the stuff's so expensive I want to make sure I'm getting the best one! I've done a little research and The Dean and Deluca one seems to get pretty good reviews, but there is also Casina Rossa which looks great but is more expensive than some other ones....there's also Fusion which some people said was too weak on truffle flavor, and then there's FungusAmongUs as well. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone out there has strong opinions about this topic? Thanks so much!

I love truffle sale and really like Cassina Rossa. And the place where I order from, Chefs Tools, it is having a 15% off sale:

The Cassina Rossa salt contains "flavors" according to the label. I am looking to find a truffle salt that is just fine salt and truffles. As I need to shop online it is difficult to tell.

I've tried several but the one I have on hand now is imported from Italy and contains tons of little chunks of black truffle in the sea salt. It is only truffles and salt. We bought ours in Italy so I am unsure where you can get it in the U.S. http://www.thisnext.com/item/BDA9E222...

Generally, the truffle salt now sold is salt with artificial truffle flavor, perhaps a bit of summer truffle for appearance but little additional flavor with the teeny chunks. If you see Manni truffle oil, it is still made with real white truffles and you pay for that delight. Add a drop or two here and there then sprinkle with a good Fleur de Sel.
