Gluten-free in the footnotes - mainly east bay
I am looking for restaurants that offer gluten-free options, usually noted in the footnotes or with an * such as (but not limited to)
sandwiches (in the east bay) (Ike's place offers gluten free bread as a bread choice, american grill cheese has gluten free bread as an opton a bit more money)
hamburgers
hot dogs
soba noodles (100%buckwheat)
pasta (filippo's on college offers a rice gnocchi as a gluten free option)
naengmyeon
middle-eastern--any place that offers gluten free pita
I am hoping these are not just pipe dreams...
Thanks

Gather in Berkeley has about half its menu labelled as gluten free, if you're looking for higher end dining.

re: ritaville
askew grill, half their items are gluten free.
chipotle, everything there is gluten free except for the tortillas.
cafe gratitude at whole foods in oakland is all GF.mexican food in general is GF. i eat a lot of tacos.
vietnamese and thai are more GF then chinese, japanese, and korean since they use rice noodles and fish sauce rather than soy sauce which has wheat.as far as restaurants providing a GF and non GF versions of the same dish, i don't think you'll find those. are you trying to do some comparison tasting?

re: lucymom
Not so much comparison tasting but that the man is non-gluten free ( a little unadventurous in his eating) and I am newly gluten free and it seems like it has been the hardest to find hamburgers and sandwiches that we both can eat (unless I want the hamburger wrapped in lettuce as the gluten free option)...
Thanks

re: ritaville
got it. i'm in the same situation. we used to go out for pizza and burgers all the time but we don't do that anymore unless the place has a salad option for me. haven't found a GF place for hamburgers or pizza yet. i know pizza rustica has GF pizza but was never a fan of their pizza in the first place.

Mariposa, the place that offers gluten free breads, has a little cafe off of Telegraph Ave.
Pizza Rustica on College uses their crusts on some of their pizzas.
I have heard that Ethiopian food is pretty gluten free, but you might want to check and make sure they don't use flour in their injera.
