Will be in Bangkok for approx. 3 days ... any suggestions?
Hi to all,
Just stumbled upon chowhound and I love it! Anyway, I will be in Bangkok for this weekend and I was wondering if any of you have suggestions? I will probably be staying at the Amari Watergate. I know of Lek Seafood already from all the postings so will probably be going there. Any other places? I would appreciate somewhere accessible by BTS or taxi-friendly (as I know that Bkk has horrible traffic) and I seem to be flying into rainy season.
Thank you all!

A short walk from your hotel, is Kaiton, one of Bangkok's best khao mun kai shops. Just head out to Petchaburi road, and head left. You'll have 2 exciting crossings, one to get to the south side of Petchaburi, and one crossing Ratchadamri. Just east of Ratchamdri, you'll come to soi 30, and Kaiton.

re: dazed2
Amarin Foodhouse is about 100 meters east of the Erawan Shrine. You have Erawan, then Amarin Plaza, then the Foodhouse.
It's kind of a "general purpose" kind of place. The food is just good solid "Asian" stuff. We've enjoyed the gaengsom and the cashew chicken.
Are "hangin' out" in Bangkok, or are you going to be shopping/touring/business?

Back from Bangkok!
Thanks to Curt and whs for the recommendations.
Amarin was solid. We had green curry chicken, rice with shrimp paste, phad thai, and morning glory. Only the pad thai was a little overcooked so the noodles were kind of stuck to one another.
Sadly, wasn't able to drop by Kaiton.
Found a THB40 green curry with crispy noodles stall at the food court at JJ Mall ... It was great! This one is had a "cash only" sign as they don't accept the reloadable cards.I ended up at the Grand Diamond instead of the Amari. Their breakfast there was great too. The spreads were chicken rice with chicken and duck, noodle station, congee (pork and chicken) with fried dough sticks, sushi (not so good) and egg and omelet station plus the usual western stuff.
Sorry for the late reply Curt but we just went for shopping and a little touring. You based there in Bangkok?

re: Curt the Soi Hound
hehehe ... wasn't intentional ... the SO went into a shopping frenzy and we had no time for internet.
Thanks for your invaluable posts (here and otherwise). I find BKK to be really friendly people with great food. Too bad their english is not really servisable ... even hotel staff had problems with basic english as "Where is the nearest grocery?" and stuff like that. Maybe because of my choice of hotel ... I don't know.
