Sat. night -- Looking for a place with a menu focused on seasonal produce...

Taking husband out for dinner on Saturday and he has finally given some guidance on where he wants to go -- a place with a menu focused on seasonal produce....I guess that's the way to say it. He envisions an appetizer of tomatoes, basil, mozzarella or a gazpacho with roasted chicken or fish for an entree.

I suggested the Blue Room but he shot that down.

Suggestions? A place that takes reservations would be highly desirable.

Boston, Cambridge or north of town preferred.

TIA, Sara

Thanks everyone! Now we have a terrific list for future reference.

H has decided on EVOO. We haven't been there in a LONG time and certainly not since they moved. Looking forward to trying it out again. Will report back.

I was going to suggest EVOO as it sounded exactly like what you were asking for. We went in July and I thought it was great. I recommend the stuffed squash flower if they still have it on the menu.

Ten Tables, EVOO, and T. W. Food all do a great job highlighting the best of the season in their cooking, although I would say that T. W. Food tends to be a bit more elaborate. Hammersly's is also a great choice.

Parsons Table in Winchester fits the bill exactly.

I had a meal very similar to what your Husband describes at Ten Tables Cambridge a few weeks ago. It was very good.

However, if you're really looking to be blown away by seasonal produce, Oleana is the way to go.

Had the locavore plate special at Highland Kitchen on Tuesday night - grilled locally caught bluefish, creamed corn, roasted fingerling potatoes and a sprinkling of cherry tomatoes and cucumber...It was perfect in its simplicity. No reservations there, and the menu as a whole is not seasonally sourced, although the numerous specials can be. It was a really great plate though and have been looking for a thread to mention it.

I've had that "locavore plate" special three times at Highland Kitchen in the past two weeks (twice with bluefish, once with swordfish) and agree, it's "perfect in its simplicity". Summer on a plate.

He'll love Hamersley's. You will, too.

I think you'd really enjoy bergamot.

Medford's Bistro 5, which I haven't been to in years, advertised an "heirloom tomato celebration" this month.

Troquet is doing an appetizer of squash blossoms stuffed with burrata and heirloom tomatoes and has particularly good fish preparations (try the cobia).

Oleana in Cambridge is not American....but is focused on seasonal produce in all its glory. Even if he doesn't especially respond well to Eastern Mediterranean seasonings, there might by dishes he'd love. Produce from her husband's farm in Sudbury.

The garden setting is lovely bu even with a reservation, it's first come.

I'm mentioning Rendezvous in Central square cambridge...they featured a farm menu in August, not sure if it's still on....but if he shot down Blue Room might do the same for Rendezvous...both formerly associated with Chris Schlesinger of East Coast Grill...who by the way always features a farm vegetable plate. Maybe Garden at the Cellar, also in Cambridge?

if you're looking specifically for roast chicken, then you have to goto Hamersley's Bistro. Other places to consider that also take reservations are Rendezvous, Harvest, Bergamot, Evoo and Garden at the Cellar.

There are a ton of choices. Provide more specifics and I'm sure all the other hounds can help narrow'em down for you.

Thanks mgcmonkey...I think his vision is really just one of being wowed by the freshness and seasonality of the meal...something crisp and summery and almost healthy :-)

I keep thinking Erbaluce for the seasonal aspect but I think he's more focused on American than Italian.

make a reservation @ hamersleys bistro. their online menu appears indicative of what your husband is looking for.
