Willamette Valley (Newberg, Dundee, Carlton) report

  • 1

Made the most of 3 days/4 nights in area. Stayed at the new Allison Inn in Newberg and ate at their restaurant, Jory, the first night. It was a little disappointing. The service was lacking, most of the dishes were good, not great with the exception of their chorizo soup which was excellent. Just the right spice. Great terrace with fire pit for after dinner drink. Wine tasting in lounge prior with Archery Summitt. Painted Lady (Newberg) had really great food. Loved the wine pairings with the 6 courses. Great duck pate, great ahi with bacon lentils. Intimate space. Only drawback was excruciatingly slow service. 3 hours, 6 courses. One course per half hour. Too slow.

Dundee was our destination for 2 nights. Tina's was good. Scallops wrapped in bacon was a favorite. Great service. It seems we lived at Farm to Fork Restaurant. It was certainly the star of the area. Our hands down favorite. We ate dinner there one night (wonderful duck confit in a salad). Got a lunch sandwich to go one day and ate there one day with a porchetta sandwich with peperoncini that was to die for. Sloooooow roasted pork, a little cheese, a little spice, wonderful sauce. Hubby's burger was the best tasting ground beef I've ever had too. We also ate 2 breakfasts there too. Incredible bacon. Incredible. And a rich but great breakfast casserole that hubby ate both times. The atmosphere is really warm and inviting. Wine bar and little shop included.

One lunch in Carlton at Cuvee. Sweet little French bistro. Small menu, but very good food and excellent service. Pate was a little spicy in a really good way. Chef actually put in too much white pepper and liked the result. We did too.

  1. Sounds very nice, we stayed at The Allison also and loved it there! Our dinner at Jory was very good, we want to try Painted Lady and Cuvee next visit. Farm to Fork also sounds very good! :)
