The Opener - Food Network Canada - ( possible spoiler)

Did anyone catch the premiere of this show last night? Based on the promos I was expecting something similar to Kitchen Nightmares and if that's the case, I think there's definitely room for improvement.

First off, I found it hard to understand exactly what the problem was that David Adjey was trying to solve...restaurant was fully-staffed, furnished, funded (with hundreds of thousands of family dollars), menu concept almost complete, pre-events with hundreds of guests fully booked. No one, including parents who'd supplied the funds seemed overly concerned about anything.

Secondly, I wasn't quite sure what value Adjey added. Aside from changing up one dish on the menu and bringing in someone to coach the inexperienced manager in how to greet guests the biggest contribution Adjey seemed to make was pitching in as a line cook on opening night and, supplying the after-service drinks (albeit from their own bar!).

I'd be interested to hear what others have to say about this.

I haven't been to impressed with it, it's even sadder than Restaurant Makeover. Most of the places don't stand a chance. El Bario in Kensignton that the Opener filmed a episode this summer closed 2 weeks ago. It really wan't very good, don't think Adjey coudl've saved it.
