If you consult the map, you won't go wrong! Yes, the food in Lyon is at least as good as "they" say, and oftentimes a great deal better.
Be warned that you won't (likely) be able to eat all you are served at every meal. Portions are usually generous.
After many trips there, the only truly "bad" food I've found is at quite a few of the small places that ring the inside of the Old Town... and they LOOK touristy.

I hope and pray that I will get to Lyon one day (maybe this year). And if I do I will definitely visit one of their official bouchon restaurants. Bouchon are I believe native to Lyon, are quite informal w/ a focus on traditional Lyonnaise cooking: chicken liver cake, blood sausage, tripe soup, local cheeses . . . Two featured on YouTube look very promising (i.e. Chez Paul and Chez Hugon). Check them out there.
One day (soon maybe).Bon Appetit

Wow! Chicken liver cake! I'm going from here to finding les chez Paul et Hugon. I hope you get there, too. I've only driven through it (knowing what I was missing). Lyon also has several museums, two contemporary art, a museum of print (posters), and the Musee Lumier, dedicated to the founders of moving film. Thanks again. We'll toast you when we're there.
