El Salto de Friale, at 7639 Firestone, has very tasty Peruvian food; Cebiche del Rey on Florence, a ceviche specialist, isn't bad either. Pepe's #2, on Telegraph, has wonderful taquitos, and quite respectable Cal-Mex food. And the steaks at Dal Rae are just a short drive east.

Del Raes is not in Downey but a classic Red booth steak house....and always good.
The oldest standing Mc Donalds on the corner of Lakewood and Florence is fun so you can at least say you'v been to the oldest Mc donalds, they also have a corny , but cute little tribute museum attatched.

Amapola has delicious fish and (even better) shrimp tacos. I believe they make their own tortillas, too!

Stox at 9518 Imperial Hwy in Downey is a nice setting for a more sedate, good quality dinner, yet hardly anything revelatory. Reliable is a good word for it.

If you're in the mood for a decent Swedish meal, there's always Nordic Fox. Closer than a trip to Carson or Burbank for Ikea's cafe, and more variety, too.. Enjoy.
