Kosher items at BJ's?

There is a BJ's opening near my house. Can anyone comment on the kosher selection there? (This store is in NY). Do they carry kosher meats? Cheeses? How are their prices on those items, as well as milk and regular groceries? Is the membership worth it for the kosher consumer?
Thanks!

I am in Srasota, FL. I belong to BJ's and saw the corned beef by AMERICAN KOSHER from New City, NY.
It looked beautiful, but what a disappointment!! It was tough and tasteless.
So, I wrote a letter to the company, but got it back because the only information available was what I just mentioned. Would love to send a complaint, perhaps I should contact BJ's.....any suggestions?

Based on the info gotten on this board we just tried AMERICAN KOSHER CORNED---make that carragenan beef-----simply awful.BJ"S has gone from Best's Kosher pastrami to Hebrew National Pastrami to this?????? Meal Mart's corned beef is better by far.It is a shame that my fellow orthodox jews have taken Glatt down to such depths----even Abeles and Heymann injects seaweed into their meats!!!!!!! In the early 90's I tried to make corned beefand eggs with International corned beef----and smelled cinnamon!!!!!

I've never seen kosher meat or cheese at BJ's, except for goat cheese, which I haven't seen in a while.

In regard to grocery items.. they have a large selection of nuts, candy, baking items, chips, and granola bar type items. They have Entenmann's sometimes also...

Honestly.. I prefer Costco. It's easier for me to get to, and they have a much larger selection of kosher items.

In the NY area Costco is the clear choice. Since my daughter just started school in Buffalo I was happy to see that they had a BJ's there (no Costco) and now have a membership with them (the second member was free). It did not buy her much in the kosher department, but still a welcome addition to the VERY few kosher options there.

Here my choices are the Costco in Lawrence vs the BJ's in Valley Stream - day and night as far as kosher offerings. Most of Costco's cakes are kosher and sinfully delicious. And their meat department is quite extensive. Nice selections of cheeses too.

BJ's is better than nothing.. husband went to school in Buffalo. He was a member of BJ's and used the membership mostly to buy fruit, water bottles, and packaged snacks. He said he mostly went to Wegman's, as they had a large selection of kosher packaged items, and sometimes Empire chicken.

I've been to the Costco in Lawrence- and I definitely agree. I prefer that location to Brooklyn b/c it's all one level.

Wegman's is nice and is the store of choice when my daughter needs to go to a quiet place to study. As to kosher shopping so far we have only found Tops as the place of choice since their entire bakey section is kosher and they do have a kosher deli in the store with a reasonable (by Buffalo standards) kosher selection.

sooooo off topic but I must comment. Studying in a public place was a trick my dad taught me, he said he was too embarressed to get up and walk around and would be forced to do his work... Of course the restaurant of choice at time was a Burger King, but you get the idea.

Wegman's stores usually have a really nice cafe type seating area. At the stores I've been to, the seating is one flight up around the perimeter of the store.. open space and quiet enough to study... but no one to tell you to put away that bag of chips.

Wegman's was a real nice store. I was impressed.

My daughter studies at either Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks or Wegman's. At Stern it was always in the library, here it is at the food joints. She even says that she runs into some of her professors there. Maybe the stress of Medical School requires one to be near a source of coffee.

I have two local BJs and both have some Kosher foods. Not tons, but neither is in a huighly Jewish area.
One thing I LOVE that they sell is the scooped out fruits filled with sorbet. They arecertified kosher and I think $12.95 a box of 12. Which s way less than the same box of the same fruits with a differant name on them (Kleins i belive) for $6.99 for THREE at my local Acme (grocery store)
We find the memebrship to be a good deal for us, especially for thier printer ink. If you have a large dog, dog food is also really reasonable.

An update to my last post:
Yesterday i saw packaged presliced deli meat (forget the details, but it was kosher) and Empire fresh whole turkeys for $2.99 a pound and turkey breasts for $3.00 pound. Is this good, I dunno? I get the "free turkey" in November when my store offers it with a qualifying purchase (last year it was an almost 7 pound kosher turkey breast) and use it in soup. We are not big turkey eatters here, but we love turkey soup! HTH some.

Montgomery Co, PA near the KoP Mall and the "Heart of Montgomery County" .I can easily go to two BJ's, but normally go to the one in Oaks.
