Fabulous dinner near Boston College

I'll be in Chestnut Hill on Thursday with the company credit card looking for a wonderful dinner. Preferably a place that starts dinner service at 6 or earlier since I have to be on BC campus by 7:45 and would rather not have to rush through my meal. I'm not a fan of seafood, but pretty much open to anything else. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Not the greatest area for fine dining. Jasmine Bistro in Brighton Center isn't too far away: very nice French and Hungarian food in a modest but cute storefront setting. Washington Square Tavern is a nice upscale bar/restaurant whose food I quite like.

Tamarind Bay Coastal Cuisine does an upmarket take on Indian food, but it does tend to focus on seafood. I haven't been to Jacky's Table yet, but that's another Brighton space, and I like the chef/owner's Petit Robert Bistro restaurants, which are similar if a bit more formal.

In Chestnut Hill along Route 9, you have a few options: Oishii, an excellent, traditional small sushi bar; Aquitaine Bis, a good fancy French bistro; Capital Grille, a typical luxury steakhouse; and La Morra, a pretty fair, Northern-leaning Italian place with some small plates.

Plenty of options if you want something a bit more modest, especially in nearby Allston.

The best resto closest to BC is the sushi bar. Oishii. However if your objection to seafood includes sushi then you are out of luck.

I don't think that the quasi-French place (Aquitaine Bis) in the Chestnut Hill Mall compares, but some like it. There are a few Italian places in Newton Centre and the Bloomingdale end of the mall, but they are nothing special. There is a steak house across route 9 on Beacon St.(Capital??) but the food does not justify the tab.

A bit further away, but better that the non-Oishii places mentioned are the Washington Square Tavern (name??) at Washington St. & Beacon and in opposite direction, in Waban, also on Beacon St. is Kouzina, a decent slightly upscale Greek place.

Just about every place mentioned is within 15 to 20 minutes on foot or public transport. If you have a car, the time is 5 to 10 minutes.

Added: Where exactly is Tamarind Bay Coastal Cuisine? What is its relationship, if any, to the Harvard Square TB?

FYI - Oishii is AMAZING but they're closed till 9/6 for a summer break - unfortunately...

The Tamarind Bay is in Washington Sq, on the east bound side of Beacon St. I believe it is the same as the TB in Harvard Sq

I'd second Kouzina for its Greek/Mediterranean-influenced fare - for a less formal and equally as good but more straightforward Greek is Farm Grill on Needham Street in Newton - it's a casual place, where Kouzina is more upscale as VivreM said.

Lumiere in West Newton is not too far (though not T-accessible) and is a nice place to spend somebody else's money.

Metropolitan Club in CH on Rte 9 is good. Same folks as Met Bar, but a fancier, pricier spot

Fireplace in Washington Square on Beacon Street is also good

I tried Met Club once on someone else's money and would not try it again on mine or anyone else's. The steak I ordered was undistinguished and the sides were forgettable. Not worth the price. I checked out the menu at Fireplace once and thought it was veggie-friendly and over-priced. I have not heard any good reports about it.

Lumiere is good, but it is a bit further away and, as noted, not easily accessible by public transport, if that is a consideration.

I have been to both Kouzina and Farm Grill. Kouzina is much better.

YMMV, but we've had 1 very good meal at each, in the past 18 months. Out of our usual pricepoint, so we haven't been back. Going back to Fireplace soon with a Groupon (or similar)

Lineage in Coolidge Corner. It is located about 1.5 miles east of Boston College just off of Beacon Street - an easy, quick drive or a short ride on the T. They start serving dinner at 5pm.
