Hip/Happening Late Night Dining in LA

bobthebuilder Aug 30, 2010 05:19 PM

Foody stopping over in LA for the night. I will be flying in with my girlfriend and we were looking for a good place to stop by and eat.

The catch is we don't get in till about 11PM, so we need a place that is open late. We wanted something trendy that serves some good food. I'll be staying near the airport, but willing to drive to Beverly Hills or wherever I need to go.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

If you don't land until 11, that means you need a restaurant that serves past midnight. I can think only of late-night diners and mexican restaurants (La Cabana) and then there's always Pacific Dining Car. None of these qualify as foodie places.

Others will have ideas of maybe some late night ethnic, but just know that you're looking at sitting down somewhere about 12:30ish.

Place Yuu has excellent izakaya fare (& sushi!), with a kitchen open until 12:30AM, sometimes even 1AM. About 15 min. driving time from LAX (at 2300h).

      Place Yuu
2101 Sawtelle Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90025

If you can make to Venice by midnight Gjelina serves until then. Hip and really good food.

Sorry, I used that word hip. I promise to never use it ever again. Please forgive me.

Well my version of trendy is probably not going to be found in the dictionary under that word but I like the food they serve at the Kettle in Manhattan Beach. Open 24/7/365. Try their Oeufs Pain Perdu.

Indeed, but the 11 p.m. arrival time might actually be too EARLY for the better Korean pubs ...

                  LOL!!! SOOO funny and true.
What would YOU say are "the better Korean pubs?" with food, ispedixit?
                  My list:
                  Dung Sung Sa
                  OB Bear
                  Hite Kwang-Jang
                  The Prince
Of those, I guess I think the food is best at Dung Sung Sa.

Yeah, DSS is pretty good, so is Heu and DWP, but at some point you get so drunk it rarely matters as long as the soju is flowing and the place is dark enough you're not totally making an ass of yourself.

101 Coffee Shop for good food in a 'trendy' diner. Well, the people who eat there, I consider trendy. Food is great, though. =)

thanks for the responses! We have quite a few izakya's in Vancouver so I'd like to try something else. Any trend places like the ones they show on entourage stil open? hah

Without a doubt the best suggestion (even if it wasn't late night dining it would be the best suggestion).

I've read that 25 Degrees (in the Roosevelt Hotel) is open 24 hours. Upscale burger joint. You can't get trendier than that!

There's a lot of good people watching at Father's Office and the burgers are (arguably) quite good.
