Bad experience Legal Seafood King of Prussia

Friday evening had a bad dining experience. I've been there when it first opened and enjoyed it but friday was terrible. The waiter had an excuse for why HE was taking so long after every 20 mins of non service. the food was bland with ZERO seasoning anywhere and to top it off the scallops appeared to be processed and not "dry" scallops. Anyone else have similiar experience?

  1. Gah thanks for posting this Fish. Was planning to eat there soon but now I will wait to see how other hounds fared with their fare.

Pass on LS. That is all I can say. I was born and bred in Maine.

Thanks crazy! Any good moderately priced places to eat in that area? Oh yeah, David's Cookies is at Costco this week. They sucked me in with a new pineapple cheesecake torte. Once I sampled it they owned me!!!

Carbs, you crack me up! Are you asking about KOP or Maine?

My favorite lunch spot is Sullivan's. They have a grilled steak salad with crispy potato croutons. I believe is is still $12. I am not generally in that area for dinner.

Thanks! I have a friend who wants to visit Nordstrom's. I'm kind of dreading it.

The only shopping I enjoy is related to food!

I'm hoping they have a cookware section that I can hide in for the duration!

Stroll over to Williams-Sonoma. Lower level.

Ooooo! Thanks crazy! I shall hang onto WS for dear life. It will be my rock in a crazed sea of back to school shoppers!

    2. I recently relocated from Boston, where Legal Seafood is an "institution". Which means its days of great seafood are long past. These days I'd put them in the same class as Cheesecake Factory or PF Changs.

The one thing that is still great is their amazing New England clam chowder. Your mileage might vary, but personally it is the standard against which I measure all other chowders (I think I actually compared Capt'n Chucky's to Legals not long ago on this very board, and Legal's chowder won!). I have often made a meal out of a big bowl while waiting for a flight in Logan airport.

At least their fish is always reasonably fresh (they have their own food safety lab). Their lobster rolls are not bad. And if they get around to doing $1 a pop oysters here, that's definitely worth a trip.

Disagree on the Chowder. I come from a Maine fishing family and their chowder is nothing like what we consider "Chowder".

Lol, the only real place you can get "Chowda", is in R.I., you just have to search the places out

Well, what can I say, not all tongues tast the same.

I suppose it is the same as the great pizza debate.

As someone who goes back to the original Legal in Cambridge (long since burned down), I was psyched when the KoP location opened. It's a source of comfort food for me. (Granted, fairly pricey comfort food.) I generally stick with the clam chowder and fried haddock (and a couple of Harpoons) and I'm a happy camper.

Like you, I measure other chowders against Legal's. I have had some that matched it, but not many.

Service, on the other hand, has been anywhere from indifferent to terrific.

          1. Went when it first opened and had a horrible experience. 20 minutes from the time we were seated to the time we saw a waiter. Another 20 min to get water delivered to our table. Another 40 minutes after that to have our apps delivered. The place wasn't super crowded at the time either, just disorganized. At the end of the meal, I spoke with the manager and said the following: 1) I understand this place is new and there will be growing pains. 2) I don't expect you to do anything at this point, I'm just sharing feedback because I know what's its like to manage people and if no one tells you whats wrong, how are things going to improve? 3) the food was delicious, the service just needs to be more consistent.

Anyway, manager ended up comping the entire meal. I was floored because it so unexpected.

I've been back several times since then and had a lovely time. I agree with Tir that its similar to Cheesecake Factory or PF Changs in price and quality. Its not super amazing like something to be found in fresh off the docks in New England, but we're not talking red lobster fare either.

            1. In the years I was traveling to Honeywell in Waltham I always looked forward to a beer, chowder and the fish and chips at Logan. I do recall being very disappointed with the KofP food and service. So it does not surprise me at all that you experienced a similiar problem. I am not expert in either seafood or chowder but I had found Legal good. In regard for a nice memory I do not go to the KofP location.
