Anniversary Dinner Recs

13th. Want to surprise wife, who is flying in from Los Angeles to meet me on Wednesday night.

We have limited experience with restaurants in SF, but have been to A16, Perbacco, Ferry Bldg. restaurants, previously.

Want something on the nicer side, modern, lively. Great seafood is always a plus.

Where would you want to go for an anniversary dinner w significant other?

If you were surprising your wife on your anniversary in Los Angeles, where would you go? This will help with recommendations.

I've always liked Farallon for seafood. Haven't been there for 4-5 months, but the SF Chronicle food critic just bumped up his rating to 3.5 stars after having taking it down a notch in a review a couple of years ago.

It's a cool space and conveniently located if you're staying downtown.

Another possibility is Waterbar. It also has good seafood and nice views of the Bay Bridge.

I can't speak to the "liveliness" of Spruce, but it's a beautiful restaurant and i think you would able to get a reservation there on relatively short notice. Food is great also.

OOPS, Just read on Insidescoopsf.com that Prospect had some flooding problem last night and is closed at least today and tomorrow. Better check with them if you were going to take my and Scott M's suggestion. The staff apparently think the earliest they'll be open is Thursday.

Thanks for the info on Propsect. Just called them and verified that they will be closed through Wed., at least.

We really liked Prospect, the new restaurant by the Boulevard people--it was modern and lively and I had a terrific seafood first course. Lafitte, on the Embarcadero, might be a good choice--great setting and I really enjoyed the food there. Wayfare Tavern, also new, has become one of our favorites and both times we've been there it's been a happening place.

I second Prospect. The seafood is well executed and the decor is nice/modern.

For great seafood and a modern atmosphere I'd head to Anchor & Hope. Cool space, great service and great seafood. Portions were a bit smaller than I hoped for, but it would make a great special occasion meal. http://www.anchorandhopesf.com/flashs...
