Freebird's World Burritos,any good?
There is a couple of FreeBird's World Burritos in San Antonio, and they plan to in October open one in The forum Shopping Center at Olympia Hills in Selma.
Has anyone eaten their burritos, and are they any good?
I like them better than Chipotle. More variety . Better choice of sauces ( hot, mild, death, habanero, bbq, lime juice). Three kinds of beans ( pinto, refried and black).
I loved Freebirds when I lived for 8 months in College Station. Great place, I miss the food there. Since I've moved many years ago, I've had it once while in Houston. Used to get the kitchen sink and have lunch the next day.
I ate at one for the first and last time this weekend. Let me preface this by saying I am not a food snob. I like junky foods and really like some chains. So this is not coming from someone who looks down their nose at chains.
Easily, the very worst meal I have ever had.
When I see people on this board complain about chains and say the food literally "had no flavor." I always kind of rolled my eyes at those people and figured they were being overly snobby, because really, how can food have zero flavor?
Now I know. It comes from Freebirds.
The un-refried beans had no flavor. The Spanish rice was dry and clumpy. The guacamole tasted old. The roasted corn and poblano salsa added nothing because it was so bland.
And I was really hungry because I had skipped breakfast that day. So when that happens, even crappy food tastes good. This meal should have read as "delicious" but nope.
Way better than Chipotle, imho. I like the rice bowl. Tons of options, fresh ingredients, friendly service. At least at the Fort Worth outpost.
