I haven't lived in Columbus for thirty years, however, the very best hamburger at one time was Max and Erma's. I tried to get there every time I visited. Please tell me it is still there!

re: GRLisk
M + E's is a national chain that just so happened to start in Cbus.....much like Wendy's.

You might check out one of the Barley's locations. http://www.barleysbrewing.com/ They were a brewpub before these things were ubiquitous. Try the sauerkraut balls, too.
The wait at Thurman Cafe can be insane. But the burgers are great.

I am not a drinker, my recommendation would be The Thurman Cafe in German Village http://thethurmancafe.com/ Their selection of beer must be good, though, because it is always full and on weekends plenty of OSU students drinking. They have been featured on Man vs. Food and other TV shows. Their burgers are delicious and HUGE, come hungry. Be warned, this is a dive and be prepared to wait, it's always busy (a good sign in my book).

re: Diane in Bexley
I don't even eat burgers and I can attest to Thurman's quality - it is the last Burger I ate, many many years ago. :-)
