Columbus, OH - Burger and a beer

I'll be in Columbus for one night this week. Looking for a place with great burger and greater beer selection. Any ideas?

  1. I am not a drinker, my recommendation would be The Thurman Cafe in German Village Their selection of beer must be good, though, because it is always full and on weekends plenty of OSU students drinking. They have been featured on Man vs. Food and other TV shows. Their burgers are delicious and HUGE, come hungry. Be warned, this is a dive and be prepared to wait, it's always busy (a good sign in my book).

I will third the Thurman vote....worth the wait in my book.

I don't even eat burgers and I can attest to Thurman's quality - it is the last Burger I ate, many many years ago. :-)

      2. You might check out one of the Barley's locations. They were a brewpub before these things were ubiquitous. Try the sauerkraut balls, too.

The wait at Thurman Cafe can be insane. But the burgers are great.

        1. I haven't lived in Columbus for thirty years, however, the very best hamburger at one time was Max and Erma's. I tried to get there every time I visited. Please tell me it is still there!

M + E's is a national chain that just so happened to start in Cbus.....much like Wendy's.

They're shuttering stores, though. I think the one in the arena district, which wasn't the arena district 30 years ago, is still there.

Max & Erma's is now hit or miss - they have been bought out, then going bankrupt and just bought out again in July or August.

It is a chain, but the original in German Village is very different from the rest of the chain. But it wouldn't be my first, second, or third choice for a burger in Columbus.
